Overview of the 2026 Carbon Neutral Commercialization Support Program
The Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) have significantly expanded the SME Carbon Neutral Commercialization Support Program for 2026. The program funds equipment for improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, and this year introduces a new preference for companies outside industrial complexes, opening doors for independently located businesses in regional areas.
The support covers three main categories:
Funding covers 50–70% of facility investment costs up to KRW 300 million (approx. USD 220,000). Carbon-intensive industries such as steel, chemicals, and cement qualify for the 70% ceiling, easing the financial burden of transition. The minimum company contribution is 30% of total project costs, and in-kind contributions are not accepted.
Eligibility and Track Comparison
Basic Eligibility Requirements
Track-by-Track Support Details
1. Diagnosis Track — A precise assessment of your current carbon emissions profile.
2. Equipment Track — Actual facility installation based on diagnosis results.
3. Demonstration Track — Field validation of new technology applications.
Both the Diagnosis and Equipment tracks provide an additional KRW 3 million for cost accounting services, helping companies offset the expense of mandatory cost reports when purchasing equipment.
Strategies for Earning Selection Bonus Points
Given high competition rates, securing bonus points before application is essential.
Pre-completion of ESG Management Diagnosis (Up to 5 points)
Linked Government Program Participation (Up to 3 points)
Document Preparation Checklist
Post-Installation Management
Measuring and Reporting Emission Reductions
After equipment installation, companies must submit annual reduction performance reports for two years. Quantitative measurement of emission changes against the base year is required. Establishing an MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) framework provides preferential treatment in subsequent program applications.
ESG Report Integration and Disclosure
Reduction data can be directly applied to mandatory ESG disclosures (effective 2026 for companies with assets over KRW 2 trillion, expanding to all KOSPI-listed firms by 2028). Even SMEs benefit — submitting carbon reduction data in supply chain ESG evaluations conducted by large corporations can earn bonus points in vendor assessments.
