What is the "Manufacturing AI 2030" Strategy?
On June 29, 2026, at Korea's "Great Leap Forward: 3 Mega-Projects" national briefing, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the National AI Strategy Committee's Manufacturing Task Force jointly announced "The Path to Korea's Manufacturing Transformation: Manufacturing AI 2030 Strategy." Developed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy over roughly six months in consultation with 23 private-sector experts, the strategy aims to invest KRW 20 trillion jointly from the public and private sectors through 2030 to generate over KRW 100 trillion in added value.
Three Core Tasks
What This Means for Manufacturing SMEs
While this looks like a large national investment strategy, the third core task — "spreading manufacturing AI to regional industry" — explicitly includes supporting AI adoption among regional manufacturing SMEs. Existing programs such as smart factory construction support and AI vouchers are likely to be reorganized and expanded under this "Manufacturing AI 2030" framework.
